CHM 1045 - General Chemistry I  (BC Course Description and Outline)

Topics covered include chemical measurements, stoichiometry, atomic structure, periodic table, chemical bonding, inorganic compounds nomenclature and formula writing, gases, liquids, solids, solutions, acid-base chemistry and ionic reactions and descriptive chemistry of non-metals.

Students may sign up for this course without being placed by the Testing Center or meeting with the Associate Dean. This course is transferrable in a degree seeking program.

General Chemistry is geared towards students majoring in the Sciences.

General Chemistry I is the first part of a two sequence condensed program for General Chemistry. See below for the complete sequence:

CHM 1045 - General Chemistry I to be taken concurrently with CHM 1045L - General Chemistry I Laboratory
CHM 1046 - General Chemistry II to be taken concurrently with CHM 1046L - General Chemistry II Laboratory

[The expanded sequence General Chemistry courses are CHM 1040, CHM 1041 with CHM 1045L and CHM 1046 with CHM 1046L.]

This course is offered concurrently with CHM 1045L.

Prerequisite: MAC 1105

Corequisites: CHM 1045L
